Xiaomi Mi Pad 2 with Windows 10 launches on January 26
Xiaomi, the Chinese smartphone and smart home giant, has announced the launch of its second-generation tablet, the Mi Pad 2, with Windows 10 as an option. The Mi Pad 2 is a 7.9-inch tablet that boasts an all-metal construction, an Intel Atom processor, and a USB Type-C port.
The Mi Pad 2 is powered by a 64-bit Intel Atom X5-Z8500 processor clocked at 2.24GHz, coupled with 2GB of dual-channel LPDDR3 RAM. It has a 7.9-inch IPS display with a resolution of 2048 x 1536 pixels, giving it a pixel density of 326 PPI. The tablet also features an 8-megapixel rear camera with f/2.0 aperture and a 5-megapixel front camera for selfies and video calls.
The Mi Pad 2 comes with a large 6,190mAh battery that supports 5V/2A fast charging via the USB Type-C port. The tablet also has dual speakers, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and sensors such as accelerometer, gyroscope, ambient light sensor, and hall sensor. The tablet measures 200.4 x 132.6 x 6.95mm and weighs 322 grams.
The Mi Pad 2 will be available in two colors: dark grey and champagne gold. The tablet will also have two variants: one running Android and one running Windows 10. The Android version will have either 16GB or 64GB of internal storage, while the Windows 10 version will only have 64GB of internal storage.
The Android version of the Mi Pad 2 will go on sale in China on November 27 for RMB 999 (around Â103) for the 16GB model and RMB 1,299 (around Â134) for the 64GB model. The Windows 10 version of the Mi Pad 2 will go on sale in China in late December for RMB 1,299 (around Â134) for the 64GB model.
Xiaomi has not announced any details about the availability of the Mi Pad 2 in other countries outside China. However, given the popularity of Xiaomi's products in markets such as India and Southeast Asia, it is likely that the tablet will make its way to these regions soon.
The Mi Pad 2 is Xiaomi's second attempt at making a tablet after the Mi Pad, which was launched in May last year. The Mi Pad was an Android-only tablet that ran on Nvidia's Tegra K1 processor and had a plastic body. The Mi Pad received positive reviews for its performance and display quality, but was criticized for its lack of cellular connectivity and limited availability.
With the Mi Pad 2, Xiaomi seems to have addressed some of the shortcomings of its predecessor by offering a metal body, an Intel processor, a USB Type-C port, and a Windows 10 option. The Mi Pad 2 also competes with other Windows tablets such as the Microsoft Surface series and the Apple iPad Pro.
